Implementation phase ended

[2022-10-31]

On October 31, 2022, the implementation phase of the ACE-Trainer project ended after 24 months of our common work. In the course of the implementation ACE partnership members hosted seven inspirational workshops focused on boosting professional development of vocational trainers. In the process, workshop participants devised a number of new education tools and methods, which are integrated into the Senior Social Worker Course. From December 2022 the enhanced SSW Course is available for free to all interested parties on the ACE-Trainer project website.

[2022-9-12] Last Workshop in Herzogenrath
The second three-day workshop of the project summarized the main phase of the implementation: We started with reviewing all best practice exchanges, which were implemented between June 2021 and June 2022. We discussed the methodology of the exchange sessions, highlighted the best practices implemented and evaluated impact of the events on the exchange participants. In the latter parts of the workshop we focused on tangible outputs from the exchange sessions, which.will constitute new methods and/or tools complementing the training system of the Senior Social Worker (SSW) Course, which was developed earlier as the principal output of the 2014-1-CZ01-KA202-002058 ACE project. We reviewed and analyzed the current exchange outputs, which were selected for integration with the SSW Course and agreed on a few modifications to the final output selection. In total a portfolio of 32 new training methods and/or tools was selected for inclusion within the SSW Course.

[2022-7-07] Guiding and advising in senior care service and treatment of seniors suffering from mental illnesses were the main topics of our last best practice exchange of the project, which took place from June 27 to July 1, 2022. The event was organized by the project partner Provincia di Livorno Sviluppo (PLIS) in Livorno, Italy. All partnership countries again took part in the event and 14 exchange participants - trainers and/or social workers involved in senior care - arrived to Livorno. The host partner PLIS implemented the event's program with a participation of the experts from SVS Livorno and Auser Filo d'Argento Livorno, important regional stakeholder organizations active in the senior care service in Tuscany. The exchange participants also had the opportunity to tour the brand-new Alzheimer center SVS in Palazzo del Portuale (piazza del Pamiglione), which will be opened for service in the fall 2022.

The principal activities of the exchange consisted of three one-day work sessions focusing on the following topics of social service work in the senior service sector:

  • Alzheimer disease - symptoms, development and treatment
  • Guiding and advising on senior care in a community based setting
  • Care for elderly people with dementia
All work sessions followed again the standardized process in four distinct phases:
  • Demonstration lesson on the selected theme
  • Lesson evaluation according to the standard set of criteria
  • Experimenting with alternative complementary teaching methods and/or tools
  • Recording the most valuable outcomes of the experimenting phases in the last work session

[2022-4-11] Between April 4 and April 8 the first best practice exchange of 2022 and the fourth of the project was organized by the project leader ACZ in Prague, Czech Republic. This exchange has seen so far the biggest exchange attendance - in total 16 participants arrived to Prague and all partnership countries were involved in the event.

The principal activities of the exchange consisted of three one-day work sessions dealing with various topics of social service work in the senior service sector. Work sessions of this exchange focused on the following three themes:

  • Didactic principles in continuing education
  • Types of social services for seniors
  • Principles of assertive communication
All three work sessions followed the standardized process "3x3+1" which was established and refined during the previous best practice exchanges and proved to be very productive:
  • Demonstration lesson on the selected theme
  • Lesson evaluation according to the standard set of criteria
  • Experimenting with alternative complementary teaching methods and/or tools
  • Recording the most valuable outcomes of the experimenting phases in the last work session

The next best practice exchange is scheduled to start in Livorno, Italy in June 2022.

[2021-11-12] The third best practice exchange of the project and the last one of year 2021 took place between November 1 and 5, 2021, in Pécs, Hungary. This exchange marked the first time we were able to meet with full participation of the partnership members.

The core activities of the exchange consisted of three one-day work sessions dealing with various topics of social service work in the senior service sector. Work sessions of this exchange focused on the following three themes:

  • Guiding and advising about employing assistive devices
  • Using smart assistive technologies for the elderly
  • Ambient assisted living solutions for the elderly
These three work sessions followed the standardized process "3x3+1" which was established and refined during the previous two best practice exchanges:
  • Demonstration lesson on the selected theme
  • Lesson evaluation according to the standard set of criteria
  • Experimenting with alternative complementary teaching methods and/or tools
  • Recording the most valuable outcomes of the experimenting phases in the last work session

The next best practice exchange is scheduled to take place in Livorno, Italy in April 2022.

[2021-11-10] The first face-to-face management meeting of the project was held in Pécs on November 1st, 2021. This meeting immediately preceded the third best practice exchange event, also held in Pécs, and its main focus was evaluation of the first two exchanges. Should the members find any needs for rectifying or amending the structure of exchange workshop sessions, changes would have been applied immediately in the third exchange event. Meeting participants, however, found no need for changes and the exchange went ahead as planned. Participants also discussed a possibility of extending the project, but have not found any sound reasons for doing so. With a bit of good luck we will be able to complete the project on the schedule by October 31, 2022.

[2021-9-10] The second best practice exchange of the project took place between August 30 and September 3, 2021, in Herzogenrath, Germany  Thanks to improved traveling conditions four (out of five) partnership members were able to travel to Germany and participate in the exchange.

The core activities of the exchange consisted of three one-day work sessions dealing with various topics of social service work in the senior service sector. Work sessions of this exchange focused on the following three themes:

  • Development of social service networks for seniors
  • Methods of social space analysis
  • Volunteering in social services for the elderly
These work sessions followed the structure elaborated in detail earlier, which was tested and verified during the first Vilnius exchange in June 2021. During the Herzogenrath event the session structure was further detailed and "standardized" in the following process flow:
  • Demonstration lesson on the selected theme
  • Lesson evaluation according to the standard set of criteria
  • Experimenting with alternative complementary teaching methods and/or tools
  • Recording the most valuable outcomes of the experimenting phase

Written outputs formulated during the best practice exchange sessions will eventually extend the teaching portfolio of the Senior Social Worker Course. We can see a positive trend in exchange participation and we hope that the next event, scheduled for the beginning of November 2021 in Pécs, Hungary, will take place with full participation of the partnership members.

[2021-8-12]The first project event where we were able to meet face-to-face took place between June 21 and June 25, 2021, in Vilnius, Lithuania during our first best practice exchange. While only three out of five partnership members were able to travel to Lithuania and participate in the exchange, all scheduled activities were completed according to the event plan. Under the given conditions we consider participation of three partnership organizations in the event a positive breakthrough in the project.

The Vilnius best practice exchange proceeded according to the plan elaborated in detail during our partnership's online workshop in June 2021. The core activities of the exchanges always consist of three one-day sessions dealing with various topics of social service work in the senior service sector. Work sessions of this exchange focused on the following three themes:

  • The concept of senior service work
  • Nutritional needs of the elderly
  • Quality mobility planning for the elderly

In conclusion of the exchange event written outputs were formulated including detailed lesson plans and methodology recommendations for the topics. We hope that the second exchange, scheduled for the end of August 2021 in Herzogenrath, Germany, will take place with full participation of the partnership members.

[2021-6-10] The first joint staff workshop was planned to take place in May 2021 in Prague. Due to travel restrictions imposed by the covid-19 pandemic situation it was conducted online between June 18 and June 20, 2021. Participants of the workshop reviewed the contents and the structure of the VET/CVET Senior Service Worker Course for social workers caring for the elderly, which has been developed in the ACE project. Workshop members also explored innovative tools built into the course and its training methodology. Subsequently, consortium partners focused on an in-depth discussion of the proposed methodology format of the joint staff exchanges and further detailing of the proposed exchange methodology rules. In conclusion of the workshop the participants reached an agreement and approved a framework for methodology and organization of the upcoming joint staff exchanges.

[2021-1-12] The initial partnership meeting had been scheduled for January 2021 to take place in Livorno, Italy. Due to the travel limitations imposed by the ongoing covid-19 pandemic situation, our partnership met online on January 11, 2021. The meeting focused on building a sense of common ownership by the consortium partners of the project's design and purpose. In the course of the meeting activities and indicators of the project were reviewed and discussed among the partnership members. A special attention was paid to the key activity of best practice exchanges. There will be five exchanges and each partner will host one. The first exchange is scheduled for early summer 2021, if the conditions permit. The first off-line meeting of the partnership should take place even earlier as a joint staff workshop in May 18 - 20, 2021.

[2020-12-18] All members of the ACE-Trainer partnership met briefly online on December 18, 2020, to discuss preparations for the kick-off meeting, under conditions gravely affected by the covid-19 pandemic. It was unanimously agreed to hold the kick-off meeting online on January 22, 2021.
